Holy Week is a significant event observed by devout Catholics and Christians every year. This year 2013, Holy Thursday (also called Maundy Thursday) and Good Friday falls on March 28 and 29 respectively. Most businesses are closed during Holy Thursday and Good Friday. Even radio and TV stations do not have their regular schedules but have prerecorded Holy Week related shows instead. Some people visit churches or what they call "Bisita Iglesia", while some would spend these days in recollection. Some people also take this opportunity to unwind and go out of town due to the long weekend. For workers in service related organizations such as hospitals, some may be required to report for work. They will be paid a premium equivalent to their regular rate of pay for working on a regular holiday. Employees covered by the holiday pay rule are still entitled to their daily basic wage for any unworked regular holiday. Holy Week in Philippines is celebrated with huge festivities around the country. In some regions, Easter procession is started from Holy Thursday, where volunteers walk around the city in bare foot, carrying wooden cross. In Philippines, Holy Week is also called as Semana Santa or Mahal Na Araw. |

June 12 is one of the most significant dates in the Philippines' history because it marks our country's independence from the Spanish rule on June 12, 1898.
Independence day is a regular holiday. A regular holiday means that a daily paid employee will still be paid equivalent to the regular pay, and that a monthly paid employee will not be deducted for absences. When an employee reports for work on a regular holiday, a holiday premium pay will be added equivalent to 100% of the regular pay. In iSuweldo, the admin does not need to add the holiday in the calendar because it is already included in the default holiday. |
